Quite often we’ll be browsing around and think ‘hmm, that’s a handy bit of information to file away for another day’.
We might simply set a bookmark, but increasingly a little extra detail will be stored in something like Evernote or similar.
We thought it might be good to share this data, and hence this page was born. For the most part this will be info and links for business tools (on and offline), social media sites, technology stuff.
Who knows where it will end up!?
A constant work in progress (bit like our glossary) we’ll continue to update this over time. Any and all suggestions for additions are most welcome.
Analytics
- Clicky: Real-time tracking and analysis of site visitors
Documents, Spreadsheets and Presentations
- Crocodoc.com: simple document sharing, peer review and mark-up service. Upload a document (Word, PDF, PowerPoint), share the secret URL and then strike out words, add annotations and comments, stickies and highlights. No sign-up, free to use. Simple but effective.
Enterprise Software
- Getapp.com: provides an easy way to find Enteprise software (think Enterprise ‘app store’). Has the ability to setup online demos and trials before buying using a virtualised environment hosted by cloudshare. The following GetApp widget allows you to search directly from here (handy, huh?):
Note taking
- Evernote: make notes, grab screenshots, make PDF files from pages. Desktop download and syncs with online account. Free up to a point (based on usage and some features). We use this a lot.
Project & Task Management
- Tom’s Planner: simple online tool to create gantt charts for project planning and tracking. Users can export the charts to MS Project, to an image, share on the web etc.
RSS
- page2rss: converts pages and websites that do not have an RSS feed into .. an RSS feed. Allows notifications through Twitter, or you can simply subscribe to the stream.
Social media management (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn etc)
- Tweetdeck: Adobe Air app that consolidates feeds from Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. Allows updates to same and support multiple accounts. Handy way to keep multiple channels in one place. Supports Growl for the mac for notifications. Another one we use a lot. Also supports Twitter lists.
Social media marketing management (*phew*)
- Radian6: Probably the pre-eminent tool in this space, Radian6 allows you to create a platform to listen, measure and engage with your customers across the entire social web
- Trackur.com: track keywords and sentiment. Can email or send RSS feeds of chosen terms. Free and paid accounts available.
- Ubervu: Allows simple visual tracking of conversations around a certain topic (e.g. your company name). You can also overlay a competitor or comparative term. Pro accounts allow you to drill down into sentiment, trending etc.
Video Conferencing
- oovoo: online video conferencing for up to 6 people. 2 way is free, more and you pay for it. You can also share your desktop, send files etc. In use we found it needed a pretty zippy connection, but is a good alternative to Skype if you need video conferencing rather than single person to person.
- seetoo: enables viewers in multiple locations to watch pre-recorded videos together
